Controlled Tree Removal
If a tree is aging, diseased or infringing on nearby buildings it may be unsafe. Our experienced team are properly trained to safely remove difficult and hazardous trees without causing damage to property.
* Please note that City of Ottawa require you to obtain a 'distinctive tree permit' if the tree is over 50cm in diameter
Correct Pruning Procedures
Pruning can be essential for the health of your trees. Too many branches can lead to a weak structure, making the tree unsafe and can also cause a 'sail effect' in high winds and create dark damp interiors where insects and fungi thrive.
Overhanging branches can be hazardous to power lines and to your or other people's property, or even just block your view.
A properly maintained tree will live a longer and healthier life, and remain more attractive. Over-pruning however, can be dangerous or even kill your tree.
Distinctive Tree Removal Arborist report
If you are planning to remove a large tree, the City of Ottawa requires you to obtain a permit for all trees over 50cm in diameter at chest height (157cm in circumference).
Before a permit can be issued you are required to have an arborist report from a qualified arborist. In the report we record information about your tree and reasons for the removal. Once you have an arborist report, you then contact the city to arrange for a forrester to inspect the tree and decide whether or not a permit will be issued for removal.
We charge $50 for this type of report.
If you prefer, one of our arborists can deal with the city and meet the city forrester on your behalf to try to obtain the permit. Please contact us for more information on this service.
* Please ensure your tree is over 157cm in circumfence prior to requesting an arborist report for removal, by measuring the tree at chest height or 1.2m from the ground.
We offer Arborist Reports for a wide range of situations, including: · Diagnosis of problems with ailing trees. · Report on the value of a tree, given age, species etc. Usually for insurance purposes. · Inspection of trees on a new or potential home purchase. · Species identification; may be be required before destroying a tree for a new building, to ensure the tree is not listed as an endangered species.
Weak Tree Support Systems
If your tree is of value & you wish to prolong the tree's life while ensuring the safety of your home and garden, it may be necessary to consider installing a support system in the tree. This can greatly increase a tree's safety and longevity.
Have one of our Certified Arborists inspect your tree to see if this is the best course of action for you.
Stump Grinding
If you have a tree removed and wish the stump to be removed as well, we can grind the stump to about 5 inches below the ground, where the roots will rot away. This will leave plenty of space to lay turf or plant grass or small shrubs.
If you want to plant another tree it is usually advised to place it a few feet from the original site, to ensure adequate space for roots to develop.
Hedge Trimming
Cedar hedges should be trimmed every year, if neglected they become too wide, patchy and they fail to function as privacy border with neighbors. Poorly looked after cedars become a eyesore and can grow into utility lines if left unchecked.
Emergency Storm Clean Up
We can help at short notice with the process of bringing your property back to normal. We take care of dangerous situations and remove the majority of the wood and brush the same day.
If the storm damage involves a hydro line, then you should contact Ottawa Hydro (or Hydro One, where applicible)

New Home Tree Inspection
If you are planning on buying a new property a Home Inspector can tell you about any potential problems with the building, but often have no expertise on the trees. A tree that is large, dangerous or too close to the foundation can turn into an unexpected and expensive bill to pay, especially after all the costs of moving. We offer a Home Tree Inspection service where one of our arborists will inspect the tree or trees on a city sized property and give you an assessment of their health, safety and any potential problems you may encounter with them in the future. We charge $80 for this service for a city lot, or $140 for a larger lot.
